This artwork by Karel Appel achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March last year. In the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale auction, the work Woman and Bird on Beach sold for GBP 151,200.00 (€ 179,264.62) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 80,000.00. Admittedly, works by Karel Appel have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Two birds and a Flower in December 2012 with an auction result of EUR 841,000.00.

Dieses Kunstwerk von Karel Appel erzielte im März letzten Jahres bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale wurde die Arbeit Woman and Bird on Beach für GBP 151.200,00 (€ 179.264,62) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 80.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Karel Appel auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Two birds and a Flower im Dezember 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 841.000,00.
