Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Wayne Thiebaud achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May 2018. In the Post-War and Contemporary Art Morning Session auction, the work Three Candied Apples sold for USD 3,852,500.00 (€ 3,301,199.66) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,800,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Wayne Thiebaud - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Encased Cakes, which sold at auction in July last year for HKD 79,200,000.00 (€ 9,882,532.84).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Wayne Thiebaud erzielte im Mai 2018 bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Post-War and Contemporary Art Morning Session wurde die Arbeit Three Candied Apples für USD 3.852.500,00 (€ 3.301.199,66) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 1.800.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Wayne Thiebaud mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Encased Cakes beobachtet, die im Juli letzten Jahres für HKD 79.200.000,00 (€ 9.882.532,84) versteigert wurde.
