Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Francis Bacon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in March last year. In the Prints & Multiples auction, the work Triptych (In Memory of George Dyer) (S. 33; T. 6) sold for GBP 12,600.00 (€ 14,938.72) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Bacon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Three Studies Of Lucian Freud in November 2013 with an auction result of USD 142,405,000.00 (€ 104,663,383.80).
