Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Woolworth Building, No. 2 by John Marin was auctioned at Christies in September 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 12,500.00 (€ 10,797.27). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Marin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lobster Boat, Cape Split, Maine in April this year with an auction result of USD 1,925,500.00 (€ 1,744,112.32).
