Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2021 Sothebys in New York held the auction Important Prints & Multiples: Part II, which included the work Self Portrait/White Ink by Chuck Close. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 10,080.00 (€ 8,725.76) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Chuck Close achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Gwynne in May 2004 with an auction result of USD 2,807,500.00 (€ 2,298,027.34).
