etching, circa 1647, on laid paper, third (final) state, with the date '1648' and 'alla Pace' added to de Rossi's address, trimmed on or just outside the platemark, an unobtrusive horizontal central drying crease mainly visible verso, some coloured wash in the left and right of the image, otherwise generally in good condition

In the Old Master, Decorative, Modern & Contemporary Prints including an Important Private Collection by Lill Tschudi auction, the work The Genius of Castiglione (Bartsch 23; Percy E16; Bellini 56) sold for GBP 1,750.00 (€ 2,158.24) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Pagan Sacrifice in July 2000 with an auction result of GBP 971,750.00 (€ 1,571,306.96).
