Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In November 2006 Christies in New York held the auction Post War and Contemporary Art Morning Session, which included the work Study For Most Beautiful Foot by Tom Wesselmann. The »bidding war« ended at USD 72,000.00 (€ 54,294.55), 20% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tom Wesselmann achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Great American Nude No. 48 in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 10,681,000.00 (€ 6,864,395.89).
