Description
LOUIS MARCOUSSIS (1883-1941) Le Comptoir etching, 1920, on wove paper, signed in pencil, a fine, strong and tonal impression of the fourth, final state, an impression aside from the edition of 125 published in Die Schaffenden by G. Kiepenheuer, Weimar, 1922 Plate 187 x 143 mm. Sheet 410 x 308 mm.
Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Le Comptoir by Louis Marcoussis was auctioned at Christies in London in September last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,520.00 (€ 2,868.00). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Louis Marcoussis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bocal Au Poisson, Livre, Guitare Devant Le Balcon in June 2010 with an auction result of EUR 480,750.00.
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Le Comptoir von Louis Marcoussis im September letzten Jahres bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 2.520,00 (€ 2.868,00) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Louis Marcoussis erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Bocal Au Poisson, Livre, Guitare Devant Le Balcon im Juni 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 480.750,00.
