Color etching with aquatint on japon nacre; signed 'Matta' in pencil l.r., numbered '1/50' in pencil l.l.; from the deluxe edition of 50 (there was also an edition of 150 printed on Arches), published by Editions Pierre Belfond, Paris, framed.

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Plate 1 from Sur Matta by Roberto Matta was sold in the Prints & Photographs | Bonhams Skinner auction at Bonhams in May this year. Here, the upper estimate of USD 300.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 318.75 (€ 299.18). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Roberto Matta achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le Pendu (The Hanged Man) in December 2011 with an auction result of EUR 1,800,750.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Plate 1 from Sur Matta von Roberto Matta wurde im Mai diesen Jahres in der Auktion Prints & Photographs | Bonhams Skinner bei Bonhams versteigert. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von USD 300,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für USD 318,75 (€ 299,18) einen neuen Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Roberto Matta erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Le Pendu (The Hanged Man) im Dezember 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 1.800.750,00.
