Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Physichromie 2556 by Carlos Cruz-Diez was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 180,000.00 – 250,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 163,800.00 (€ 152,641.88). Admittedly, works by Carlos Cruz-Diez have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Physichromie Panam in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 879,000.00 (€ 776,296.03).
