Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Tantalo; Que Sacrificio!; Ysele Quema la Casa; and Qual la Descanonan!, from Los Caprichos (D. 46, H. 44; D. 51, H. 49; D. 55, H. 53; and D. 58, H. 56) by Francisco de Goya was sold in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Prints auction at Christies in New York in May 2002. The price achieved of USD 2,629.00 (€ 2,815.08) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francisco de Goya achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Doña María Vicenta Barruso Valdés, seated on a sofa with a lap-dog; and Portrait of her mother Doña Leonora Antonia Valdés de Barruso, seated on a chair holding a fan in January this year with an auction result of USD 16,420,000.00 (€ 15,122,490.33).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 2.629,00 (€ 2.815,08) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Francisco de Goya erzielen.
