FRANK STELLA (B. 1936) Empress of India I, from V Series lithograph in colors with varnish, on Lowell paper, 1968, signed and dated in pencil, numbered 48/100 (there were also sixteen artist's proofs), published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, with their blindstamps and ink stamp on the reverse, in generally good condition, framed Sheet: 16 x 35 1 ⁄ 8 in. (406 x 892 mm.)

This price was achieved in the auction Contemporary Edition at Christies and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 5,000.00 many times over. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Frank Stella achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Point Of Pines in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 28,082,500.00 (€ 25,188,357.70).
