Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In May 2002 Christies in New York held the auction Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Prints, which included the work Visage de trois-quarts (D. 273) by Henri Matisse. The »bidding war« ended at USD 7,170.00 (€ 7,677.48), 20% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henri Matisse achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Odalisque couchée aux magnolias in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 80,750,000.00 (€ 69,194,515.85).
