JASPER JOHNS (B. 1930) Hatteras lithograph, on Rives BFK paper, 1963, signed and dated in pencil, numbered 27/30 (there were also three artist's proofs), published by Universal Limited Art Editions, West Islip, New York, with their blindstamp Sheet: 40 x 29 5 ⁄ 8 in. (1016 x 752 mm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Jasper Johns could be acquired at Christies in July this year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Contemporary Edition auction, the work Hatteras changed hands for USD 4,032.00 (€ 3,658.80) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jasper Johns achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Small False Start in November last year with an auction result of USD 55,350,000.00 (€ 53,618,134.26).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von Jasper Johns konnte im Juli diesen Jahres bei Christies für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion Contemporary Edition wechselte die Arbeit Hatteras für USD 4.032,00 (€ 3.658,80) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 5.000,00 – 7.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jasper Johns erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Small False Start im November letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 55.350.000,00 (€ 53.618.134,26).
