SAM FRANCIS (1923-1994) Untitled (SFM 80-016) monotype in colors, on handmade paper, 1980, signed and inscribed in pencil on the reverse, the full sheet, in generally very good condition, framed Sheet: 30 x 24 3 ⁄ 4 in. (762 x 627 mm.)
Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Untitled (SFM 80-016) by Sam Francis was auctioned at Christies in July this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 15,120.00 (€ 13,720.51) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Sam Francis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Composition in Blue and Black in November last year with an auction result of USD 13,557,500.00 (€ 13,133,294.58).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Untitled (SFM 80-016) von Sam Francis kam im Juli diesen Jahres bei Christies zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 20.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 15.120,00 (€ 13.720,51) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Sam Francis erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Composition in Blue and Black im November letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 13.557.500,00 (€ 13.133.294,58).
