It achieved a price of USD 9,375.00 (€ 6,353.78), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 34%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Wayne Thiebaud achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Encased Cakes in July last year with an auction result of HKD 79,200,000.00 (€ 9,882,532.84).

Die Arbeit Gumball Machine von Wayne Thiebaud kam im Oktober 2009 bei Sothebys in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 9.375,00 (€ 6.353,78) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 34%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Wayne Thiebaud erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Encased Cakes im Juli letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 79.200.000,00 (€ 9.882.532,84).
