Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Yinka Shonibare could be acquired at Christies in New York in March 2012 for an unexpectedly low price. In the First Open Post-War Contemporary Art auction, the work Victorian Philanthropist's Parlour changed hands for USD 98,500.00 (€ 73,871.31) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 120,000.00 – 180,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Yinka Shonibare - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Red Lantern Kid, which sold at auction in December 2018 for USD 325,000.00 (€ 283,694.13).
