Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Nocturne (Kennedy 184; Glasgow 222) by James Abbott McNeill Whistler was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in April this year. The price achieved of USD 5,040 (€ 4,783) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been given by the auction house as USD 4,000 - 6,000. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Abbott McNeill Whistler achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Whistler Smoking in November last year with an auction result of USD 1,200,000 (€ 1,063,170).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 5.040 (€ 4.783) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 4.000 – 6.000 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von James Abbott McNeill Whistler erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Whistler Smoking im November letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.200.000 (€ 1.063.170).
