JASPER JOHNS (B. 1930) Between the Clock and the Bed lithograph in colors, on Japon paper, 1989, signed and dated in pencil, numbered 26/50 (there were also eight artist's proofs), published by Universal Limited Art Editions, West Islip, New York, with their blindstamp, with full margins, in very good condition, framed Image: 19 5 ⁄ 8 x 34 in. (499 x 864 mm.) Sheet: 26 1 ⁄ 2 x 40 1 ⁄ 4 in. (673 x 1022 mm.)
Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In July this year Christies held the auction Contemporary Edition, which included the work Between the Clock and the Bed by Jasper Johns. Here, the upper estimate of USD 35,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 37,800.00 (€ 34,301.27). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jasper Johns achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Small False Start in November last year with an auction result of USD 55,350,000.00 (€ 53,618,134.26).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Juli diesen Jahres führte Christies die Auktion Contemporary Edition durch, in der auch die Arbeit Between the Clock and the Bed von Jasper Johns zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von USD 35.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für USD 37.800,00 (€ 34.301,27) einen neuen Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jasper Johns erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Small False Start im November letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 55.350.000,00 (€ 53.618.134,26).
