JASPER JOHNS (B. 1930) Face with Watch etching and aquatint in colors, on Arches Tout-en-Cas paper, 1996, signed and dated in pencil, numbered 22/50 (there were also eighteen artist's proofs), published by Universal Limited Art Editions, West Islip, New York, with their blindstamp, with full margins, in very good condition, framed Image: 35 3 ⁄ 4 x 26 5 ⁄ 8 in. (908 x 676 mm.) Sheet: 42 x 31 3 ⁄ 4 in. (1067 x 806 mm.)

The work Face with Watch by Jasper Johns was auctioned at Christies in July this year. It achieved a price of USD 15,120.00 (€ 13,720.51), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 26%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jasper Johns achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Small False Start in November last year with an auction result of USD 55,350,000.00 (€ 53,618,134.26).

Die Arbeit Face with Watch von Jasper Johns kam im Juli diesen Jahres bei Christies zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 15.120,00 (€ 13.720,51) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 26%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jasper Johns erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Small False Start im November letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 55.350.000,00 (€ 53.618.134,26).
