In May this year Phillips in New York held the auction 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, Morning Session, which included the work Study for Homage to the Square: Bright by Josef Albers. The »bidding war« ended at USD 844,550.00 (€ 792,706.96), 69% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Josef Albers - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Homage to the Square, which sold at auction in May this year for USD 2,954,000.00 (€ 2,772,667.54).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 69 % übertroffen
Im Mai diesen Jahres führte Phillips in New York die Auktion 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, Morning Session durch, in der auch die Arbeit Study for Homage to the Square: Bright von Josef Albers zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 844.550,00 (€ 792.706,96) und damit 69% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Josef Albers mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Homage to the Square beobachtet, die im Mai diesen Jahres für USD 2.954.000,00 (€ 2.772.667,54) versteigert wurde.
