This artwork by Maurits Cornelis Escher achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in April last year. In the Prints & Multiples auction, the work Up and Down (Bool 352) sold for USD 52,920.00 (€ 50,223.02) - well above the upper estimate of USD 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Maurits Cornelis Escher achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Reptiles (Bool 327) in April last year with an auction result of USD 756,000.00 (€ 717,471.77).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 76 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Maurits Cornelis Escher erzielte im April letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Prints & Multiples wurde die Arbeit Up and Down (Bool 352) für USD 52.920,00 (€ 50.223,02) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 30.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Maurits Cornelis Escher erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Reptiles (Bool 327) im April letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 756.000,00 (€ 717.471,77).
