Upper estimate price exceeded by 82 %.
This artwork by Max Ernst achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in December last year. In the Prints and Multiples auction, the work Etoile de Mer sold for GBP 1,275.00 (€ 1,439.35) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 700.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Max Ernst achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le roi jouant avec la reine in November last year with an auction result of USD 24,435,000.00 (€ 23,670,444.64).
