Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Olympische Spiele München 1972 by Tom Wesselmann was auctioned at Bonhams in December last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 500.00 – 700.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 280.50 (€ 316.66). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tom Wesselmann achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Great American Nude No. 48 in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 10,681,000.00 (€ 6,864,395.89).
