Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Ellsworth Kelly achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in March this year. In the Contemporary Edition: New York: Featuring the Collection of Kenwal Steel in Support of GLAAD auction, the work Black Curve sold for USD 11,340.00 (€ 10,430.46) - well above the upper estimate of USD 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ellsworth Kelly achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Red Curve VII in November 2019 with an auction result of USD 9,809,000.00 (€ 8,901,896.72).
