Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Arrival of Count de Balliet-Latour by John Wesley was auctioned at Christies in New York in November last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 120,000.00 – 180,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 113,400.00 (€ 109,851.79). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Wesley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Plague, which sold at auction in May 2008 for USD 577,000.00 (€ 370,822.62).
