Leather, bronze and wood, with leather-covered book with letterpress text and one reproductive image, 1970, the multiple stamp-numbered 16/75 (there were also three artist's copies), the book signed in pencil and numbered 16/200A (there were also 25 artist's proofs), published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, with their blindstamp incised on the bronze rim of the ashtray, housed within the original wooden box as issued

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded

Here, the upper estimate of GBP 700.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 704.00 (€ 819.33). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Claes Oldenburg achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Clothespin Ten Foot in November 2015 with an auction result of USD 3,637,000.00 (€ 3,443,476.61).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Double Nose/Purse/Punching Bag/Ashtray; A History Of The Double Nose/Purse/Punching Bag/Ashtray von Claes Oldenburg wurde im Juni diesen Jahres in der Auktion Prints and Multiples bei Bonhams versteigert. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 700,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 704,00 (€ 819,33) einen neuen Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Claes Oldenburg erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Clothespin Ten Foot im November 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 3.637.000,00 (€ 3.443.476,61).
