Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Jesse James, from the Missouri State Capitol Mural Series by Thomas Hart Benton was auctioned at Bonhams in London in October this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 7,680.00 (€ 7,267.22). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Hart Benton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Nashaquitsa in November last year with an auction result of USD 5,580,000.00 (€ 5,405,405.41).
