Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2021 Christies in New York held the auction Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale, which included this untitled work by David Smith. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 18,000.00 – 22,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 18,750.00 (€ 16,612.03) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Zig I in May 2016 with an auction result of USD 9,210,000.00 (€ 8,271,216.88).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November 2021 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale durch, in der auch diese Arbeit ohne Titel von David Smith zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 18.000,00 – 22.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 18.750,00 (€ 16.612,03) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von David Smith erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Zig I im Mai 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 9.210.000,00 (€ 8.271.216,88).
