Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Waldhaus (House in the Woods) (P18) by Gerhard Richter was auctioned at Phillips in London in January 2024, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 5,715.00 (€ 9,564.96). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gerhard Richter achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Abstraktes Bild in February 2015 with an auction result of GBP 30,389,000.00 (€ 41,901,917.57).
