This artwork by Wayne Thiebaud achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May this year. In the Post-War & Contemporary Art Day Sale auction, the work The Scholar sold for USD 195,300.00 (€ 183,311.43) - well above the upper estimate of USD 100,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Wayne Thiebaud achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Encased Cakes in July last year with an auction result of HKD 79,200,000.00 (€ 9,882,532.84).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 95 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Wayne Thiebaud erzielte im Mai diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Post-War & Contemporary Art Day Sale wurde die Arbeit The Scholar für USD 195.300,00 (€ 183.311,43) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 100.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Wayne Thiebaud erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Encased Cakes im Juli letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 79.200.000,00 (€ 9.882.532,84).
