Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of Paul Gauguin On The Eve Of His Attempted Suicide, Tahiti by Brett Whiteley was sold in the Contemporary Art Day Auction auction at Sothebys in New York in May 2014. The price achieved of USD 1,037,000.00 (€ 760,263.93) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 800,000.00 – 1,200,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Brett Whiteley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Australian Opera House, which sold at auction in May 2007 for AUD 2,880,000.00 (€ 1,770,858.54).

Die Arbeit Portrait Of Paul Gauguin On The Eve Of His Attempted Suicide, Tahiti von Brett Whiteley wurde im Mai 2014 in der Auktion Contemporary Art Day Auction bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 1.037.000,00 (€ 760.263,93) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 800.000,00 – 1.200.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Brett Whiteley mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Australian Opera House beobachtet, die im Mai 2007 für AUD 2.880.000,00 (€ 1.770.858,54) versteigert wurde.
