The work Œdipe et le Sphinx d'après Ingres (after, Œdipus and the Sphinx after Ingres, 1983) (S. 18, T. 17) by Francis Bacon was auctioned at Phillips in London in June last year. It achieved a price of GBP 15,120.00 (€ 17,565.14), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 68%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Bacon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Three Studies Of Lucian Freud in November 2013 with an auction result of USD 142,405,000.00 (€ 104,663,383.80).
