Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Max Beckmann could be acquired at Phillips in New York in April this year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Editions & Works on Paper auction, the work Kreuzabnahme (Descent from the Cross), from Geischter (Faces) (H. 131) changed hands for USD 3,048.00 (€ 2,760.87) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 3,500.00 – 4,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Max Beckmann achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Hölle der Vögel in June 2017 with an auction result of GBP 36,005,000.00 (€ 41,002,977.39).
