Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Claes Oldenburg achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in New York in April this year. In the Editions & Works on Paper auction, the work Soft Pencil Sharpener, from Brooklyn Academy of Music 1988-1989 Artists Print Portfolio (A. & P. 206) sold for USD 3,175.00 (€ 2,875.91) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Claes Oldenburg achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Clothespin Ten Foot in November 2015 with an auction result of USD 3,637,000.00 (€ 3,443,476.61).
