Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Robert Motherwell could be acquired at Christies in New York in November 2005 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Prints and Multiples auction, the work Djarum (Belknap 145; Engberg & Banach 176) changed hands for USD 4,800.00 (€ 4,071.25) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Motherwell achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work At Five in the Afternoon in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 12,690,000.00 (€ 10,874,035.99).
